It’s just 24 hours until voters up and down the land cast their ballots but some may be a bit confused regarding how exactly one should go about the process. Of course people have worries and misgivings about who to vote for, what issues should be at the forefront of their minds, or what level of tactical voting might be in play should your first preference not be in a position to achieve their aims.
But YouTuber Sean O’Laoghaire has started at the very start by compiling a literal guide to the physical process of voting itself. In a charming video that we reckon should be broadcast before the nightly news, the affable, if bewildering, O’Laoghaire describes the process in unapologetically fine detail, going over the layout of the forms, where and how the names are displayed, and the subsequent process of numbering your choices.
It could risk coming across as a civics tutorial given in a home for the gentle-minded, but its engaging silliness and earnest tone actually make it work, if not as an important public information announcement, then at least as a compellingly sweet little piece of outsider performance art. Let’s hope he does “dressing yourself” next.
