A Man Took A Break From Being A Human To Live Like A Goat

A Man Took A Break From Being A Human To Live Like A Goat

There are worse animals than a goat that you could choose to mimic. We all love a kid goat, they're highly entertaining, just look at these adorable little fellas.

But would you give up your life as a human to BE one of them. Probably if it was in the name of research, which is exactly what Thomas Thwaites decided to do when he spent three days living with a herd of goats in the Swiss Alps to investigate goat behaviour.

He was so dedicated that he used special prosthetic limbs to move around on all fours and for a while he even contemplates getting a fake stomach fitted to enable him to eat and digest grass.

According to Mashable, Thwaites just wanted a simpler life;

My goal was to take a holiday from the pain and worry of being a self-conscious being, able to regret the past and worry about the future.

He managed to convince a goatherd in the Swiss Alps to allow him to live with his herd for three days, but soon realised that being a goat was hard work when his prosthetics began to hurt him and the weather was too cold and wet for him to sleep outside so he and his team set up camp each night. Telling Motherboard about his experience he highlighted the fact he found it hard to keep up with them;

"I was able to keep up for maybe a kilometre or so on this migration down the side of this kind of rocky mountain, and then they just left me in the dust. So I spent the rest of the day trying to catch up to them. And eventually I found them again, and it was quite nice, in the actual soft grassy pasture bit. But actually heading down the mountain was petrifying. Because if I fell I didn't have any hands to stop me from hitting a rock."

He also struggled to convince the goats that he was one of them but by the end another farmer told Thwaites that they had accepted him as their own.

Thwaites, in his human form, is a conceptual designer with an interest in technology, science and futures research, focusing, for his latest project on posthumanism and transhumanism.

He will have the photos and other elements of the project on exhibit in London this September and has a book titled: GoatMan: How I Took A Holiday From Being A Human coming out in spring.
