Senator Fidelma Healy Eames has claimed that she was using the French pronunciation of WiFi when speaking in the Seanad last week, which is why it came out as 'Wiffy.'
Wasn't it obvious?
Healy Eames posted on her Facebook page last night, saying:
I spoke about the dependence on 'Wifi' (English pronunciation) first, before I intentionally used the French pronouciation 'wifee' not expecting it in the least to cause a ripple! Quelle surprise!
As a nation who travel a lot, I was acknowledging the dependence on and prevalence of wifi, wherever we go. And that there are different pronunciations for the word 'wifi.'
To be fair, she did say WiFi first but why on earth would someone then suddenly start speaking in a French accent? For one word?
She told Anton Savage this morning that she had just returned from France but my theory is that she had been inspired by Monty Python.
