A Heroic Japanese Lad Is Trying To Grab A Pint In Every Pub In Dublin

Think Mahatma Gandhi. Think Nelson Mandela. Think Brian O'Driscoll.

The great ones, they say, inspire greatness around them.

A Japanese man named Yuya Abe has undertaken one of the most courageous efforts in the history of man, as he attempts to sink a pint in every pub in Dublin.

According to publin.ie, Abe is following a book - nay, a biblical scripture - called ‘The Dublin Pub Spotters Guide’ by Mac Maloney, which lists all of the pubs in the Dublin city area.

Here he is enjoying pint no.226 in Smyths on Haddington Road:

Smyths took to their Facebook page to wish the brave soldier well, saying,

Today we had a young Japanese tourist in, who's aim it is, is to visit every single Pub in Dublin in a year. Each pub he visits, he orders a Pint of Guinness & the barman has to sign his Dublin Pubspotters Guide Book. We were privileged enough to be his 226th. What a pub crawl!! Wishing Yuya Abe the very best of luck on the rest of his trip!

As publin.ie correctly point out, having gotten his 225th pint for free in Slatterys and paid for the rest - at €4.70 a pop - Abe has so far shelled out over €1,057.50 on his travels. There are 751 pubs in Dublin.

If you see Mr. Abe in your local, do the right thing. Dip your hand in your pocket and order him a bloody pint. This man could become a near-mythical figure in Irish history.
